Our History
1989
It’s the year known for the fall of the Iron Curtain. What’s less known is the hordes of Jewish girls who landed on the shores of America, escaping their childhood land. They were bereft of a school, a community, and a place to call home. Shalsheles became that home. It opened its doors in September 1991 and provided a nurturing environment to the Russian and Bukharian girls who enrolled. They now had a secure place to call their own.
2005
Shalsheles, though financially strapped, expanded beyond belief. The school became known for its exceptional success and student motivation, causing many parents to register their daughters. Syrians girls successfully joined the Russians and Bukharians.
2015
The school continued its reputation as a solid religious and educational environment. It provided ELAs, regents, and PSATs for all students. Many students continued on to colleges of their choice after they graduated.
2020
Today, with close to 200 students enrolled in our school, we are going strong. We are proud of our girls; a beautiful blend of various backgrounds. Whether it’s Russian, Bukharian, Syrian, American, Israeli, or Chassidish, we are one united group. Each focused on personal and collective growth.
